4over Sponsors Art Day
Los Angeles, CA. September 6, 2008 —
In conjunction to giving back to the community, 4over partners with Free Arts for Abused Children, a nonprofit organization to sponsor a fun arts and crafts day at the Vista Del Mar in Los Angeles. The day began by arriving at the Vista Del Mar facility at 9am for a quick breakfast, set up and project orientation.
“We always receive a great response from our employees willing to volunteer. Unfortunately we were limited to select only five volunteers for this event. We try to promote community service in our company and hope that our employees will learn and take this great experience with them,” commented Tina Hartounian, 4over, Inc. President.
The project orientation went well; basically the duties required were to help the kids create face masks using their own face as mold, and then paint them. As 4over volunteers set up the art supplies and the props on the tables, one of the staff demonstrated the mask making process. This was very helpful since some of volunteers had never made any of these masks or were never really involved in arts and crafts as they grew up. “The objective is to give these kids some kind of an outlet to channel their feelings and communicate it with their staff and friends. Once the masks are done, we’ll ask the kids to paint the inside of the mask in a way that represents their personality. The outside of the masks should project how the kids are perceived by others, said Lisa Flores”, Free Arts Program Director.
At around 9:45 the kids arrived. They all made name tags for themselves and found their seats in the room. The staff and 4over volunteers introduced themselves and got to know the kids and a bit. With about 25 kids, each volunteer and staff partnered with one and showed them how to start… after that it was all very smooth; the masks came out perfect decorated with vibrant colors.
The lunch was delivered at noon. The volunteers helped the staff serve the lunch outside of the activity room, on the benches. After lunch the staff encouraged the kids to stand up and share their project with everyone, giving a short explanation as to how the masks represented them and how they liked this experience. One of 4over’s volunteers commented, “This was a very fun activity and I think the kids really liked it as well. We hope that we made a positive impact in their lives and can’t wait to see them again soon.”
At the closing ceremony the representatives from Vista Del Mar and the Free Arts program thanked all the volunteers for their time and participation. “We very much appreciate 4over’s generosity and donations. Companies like 4over, truly change the lives of these kids by sponsoring such activities for them. These are underprivileged kids, who need these kinds of interactions in order to get their lives on the right tracks and become a part of the society,” Lisa Flores, Free Arts Program Director.

About: Vista Del Mar: Founded in 1908 as The Orphan’s Home of Southern California, Vista Del Mar began serving children living on the streets of Los Angeles whose parents could not care for them because of illness, poverty, or death.
